Does McCain Sound Authentic?

I'm watching the McCain speech now and I'm going to write something I've been noticing over the past few weeks.

Sometimes McCain's best lines don't seem believable. When he's nailing Obama on a grim topic, like meeting without "preconditions" with Ahmadinejad, he sometimes breaks into a slight grin. Like he knows the issue is so politically beneficial he can't keep his face straight enough to be purely indignant.  I don't doubt he is, but something about his pitch and that slight grin is off-putting.

He's smiling now, saying Obama's policies don't represent "change you can believe in" or the 10th or 11th time this speech. It still looks forced. (To his credit, the crowd isn't that impressive, but I'm not sure how many people are even left in New Orleans now.)

Ok, now he's wrapping up his speech. I'm finally seeing some conviction. Maybe he just needs to get "warmed up." Maybe Bobby Jindal should've picked a fight with him during the pre-game to get McCain going.

It works for football players, right?
