President Trump blasted Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Tuesday after the New York Democrat said the president will back down on his tariff threat against Mexico.

“Can you imagine Cryin’ Chuck Schumer saying out loud, for all to hear, that I am bluffing with respect to putting Tariffs on Mexico. What a Creep. He would rather have our Country fail with drugs & Immigration than give Republicans a win. But he gave Mexico bad advice, no bluff!” Trump tweeted.

The tweet comes after Trump threatened to impose a 5 percent tariff on all imported goods from Mexico until the surge of illegal immigrants is “remedied.”

The tariff is set to take effect June 10 and increase until it reaches 25 percent “unless and until Mexico substantially stops the illegal inflow of aliens coming through its territory,” according to a statement from the White House.

Schumer said on the Senate floor that he didn’t believe Trump was serious about the tariff threat.

“Frankly, I don’t believe that President Trump will actually go through with the tariffs,” he said. “President Trump has a habit of talking tough and then retreating, because his policies often can’t be implemented or don’t make sense... so I wouldn’t be surprised at all if President Trump doesn’t follow through on these tariffs, either.”
