On Tuesday, Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian foreign ministry, described the Washington Post report on Facebook as "yet another fake."

According to the report, Trump shared intelligence given by a U.S. ally on a planned operation against the Islamic State.

In a separate post on Facebook, Zakhorova described landing in Madrid and when she turned on her phone she had “dozens of messages” asking about the story.

"Guys, have you been reading American newspapers again? Don't read them," wrote Zakharova.

"You can use them in all sorts of ways, but don't read them – it's not just bad for you, lately it's been dangerous."
