President Trump said Tuesday that former President Obama is to blame for both the protests GOP lawmakers are facing at town hall meetings and the leaks coming from the White House.
“I think President Obama’s behind it, because his people are certainly behind it,” Trump said on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” Tuesday morning.
“And some of the leaks possibly come from that group. You know, some of the leaks, which are really very serious leaks, because they’re very bad in terms of national security, but I also understand that’s politics. And in terms of him being behind things, that’s politics, and it will probably continue.”
Trump also commented on a report from the weekend that White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer checked staff members' phones in an effort to crack down on the leaks.
“I would have done it differently,” the president said, noting that Spicer “is a fine human being.”
“I would have gone one-on-one with different people and we don't have a major leak process here. We have a major leak process in government," he added. "But I would have handled it differently than Sean. But Sean handles it his way and I'm OK with it. Yeah, you don't want to have leaks."
When asked whether they have figured out who is leaking the information, Trump said they have some ideas.
“But don't forget, we have people from other campaigns, we have people from other governments. We've got a lot of people here," he said.
