Signatures on WH’s Gun Control Petition Skyrocket

A gun control petition submitted to the White House’s powerful online petition site, ‘We the People,' shortly after the CT massacre quickly surpassed the number of signatures required to get an official administration response. As of writing, the number of signatures reached 119,505 (and is growing by the minute), far exceeding the 25,000 required. The petition states:

The goal of this petition is to force the Obama Administration to produce legislation that limits access to guns. While a national dialogue is critical, laws are the only means in which we can reduce the number of people murdered in gun related deaths.

Powerful lobbying groups allow the ownership of guns to reach beyond the Constitution's intended purpose of the right to bear arms. Therefore, Congress must act on what is stated law, and face the reality that access to firearms reaches beyond what the Second Amendment intends to achieve.

The signatures on this petition represent a collective demand for a bipartisan discussion resulting in a set of laws that regulates how a citizen obtains a gun.

There are, of course, some problems with their goals as it relates to the elementary school massacre. Adam Lanza tried to buy a rifle but was denied thanks to Connecticut’s strict gun laws. So how did he obtain the guns used? He stole them from someone else (presumably his mother) who legally obtained them. Again, as Jazz Shaw at Hot Air noted yesterday, “to stop an action like that which we witnessed [Friday] you would have to eliminate the existence of guns, and we’ve all seen the figures on how well that works.” True killers will find a way no matter what.
