Trump: DOJ and the FBI Will Be Investigating the Jussie Smollett Case

The outrage over dropped felony charges for actor Jussie Smollett continues to boil over.

Thursday morning, President Trump weighed in and said the federal government will be conducting an investigation.

This isn't the first time the President has issued a statement about the case. Back in January when Smollett was first charged, he demanded an apology for his supporters. Smollett claimed to police and in television interviews that he was attacked in the middle of a Polar Vortex by two white men wearing MAGA (Make American Great Again Hats) hats and shouted "this is MAGA country!"

The men who "attacked" him were two brothers of Nigerian descent. They were caught on tape purchasing the red hats and rope, which they used for a noose, just before the incident. The FBI is investigating Smollett for potential mail fraud after he allegedly sent a threatening letter to himself.

The anger over the case has been bipartisan. Democratic Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has repeatedly called Smollett a liar. Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said this week their case was ready to go to trial and Smollett's false attacks on the police are a disgrace.

Meanwhile, one of the prosecutors who dropped the charges believes Smollett is guilty of committing a fake hate crime again himself, believes he lied and said dropped charges don't exonerate him.
