Coming Soon: Very Expensive Taxpayer Funded Healthcare For Illegal Aliens in California

Last year the government in California turned the entire state into a sanctuary for illegal aliens. Now, former San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, who is running for governor, wants to provide "free" healthcare to those in the state and country unlawfully.

During an interview on Pod Save America, Newsom cited his work in San Francisco, where he implemented a single-payer healthcare system that was accessible to illegal aliens, as an example of how he can get it done.

"I did universal coverage when I was mayor, fully implemented regardless of pre-existing preconditions, ability to pay and regardless of your immigration status. San Francisco is the only universal healthcare plan for all undocumented residents in America. Very proud of that and we proved it can be done," Newsom said.

According to estimates providing "free" healthcare to everyone in California, including the illegal alien population, would cost a staggering $400 billion per year and will require raising taxes. From the LA Times

A single-payer healthcare system in California — a galvanizing cause among the state's progressive flank — would cost $400 billion annually, according to a legislative analysis released on Monday.

1. A total cost of $400 billion per year to cover all healthcare and administrative costs.
2. Of that, $200 billion of existing federal, state and local funds could be repurposed to go toward the single-payer system.
3. The additional $200 billion would need to be raised from new taxes.

California has tried to pass single-payer healthcare in the past and has failed repeatedly. Current Democrat Governor Jerry Brown has been an opponent of legislation on the issue due to the overwhelming cost.
