President Trump: I Fired Comey Because He Wasn't Doing a Good Job

Speaking from the White House Wednesday, President Trump commented publicly for the first time about his decision to fire FBI Director James Comey.

"Because he was not doing a good job," Trump said when asked by pool reporters about his decision.

Trump was seated in the Oval Office with Henry Kissinger at the time of his comments. A meeting with Kissinger was not on the official White House schedule. The President also met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov today.

When the announcement of Comey's firing came late Tuesday afternoon, White House officials said the decision was made after recommendations from Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
