Rick Perry Endorses Ted Cruz For President

After scooping up an endorsement from Glenn Beck over the weekend in Iowa, GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz has landed the backing of fellow Texan and former Governor Rick Perry. Perry entered the 2016 race for the White House in June of last year and announced the suspension of his campaign in September. POLITICO has the exclusive:

Through phone calls and during a December day spent driving around his Round Top, Texas, home in his truck with Cruz, Perry said he found the senator to be a good listener who respects the Tenth Amendment, “knows what he does not know” and is more conservative than Trump.

“Of those individuals who have a chance to win the Republican primary, at this juncture, from my perspective, Ted Cruz is by far the most consistent conservative in that crowd,” Perry said. “And that appears to be down to two people."

Perry will be in Iowa this week to campaign for Cruz on the ground just seven days before voters head to caucus next Tuesday. According to new polling, Cruz is losing to Trump by five points.
