Ben Carson to Make Presidential Announcement May 4

Dr. Ben Carson, who rose to political fame after a speech criticizing the Obama administration at the National Prayer Breakfast in 2013, will make an announcement about running for president on May 4. From CNN:

Ben Carson will make a major announcement on May 4 in Detroit, his campaign tells CNN, setting the date and location for what's expected to be the launch of his presidential bid.

The announcement will take place at the Detroit Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts, and will be ticketed, but the rest of the details — the exact time, and how many tickets Carson will distribute to supporters — have yet to be hammered out, a spokeswoman said.

Indeed, the substance of the announcement itself, spokeswoman Deana Bass said, is still up in the air.

"He will make an announcement. But he's still very much in the exploratory phase, so he hasn't made a decision yet," she said.

Over the weekend Carson attempted to court Second Amendment supporters, an important part of the conservative base, in Nashville at the 144th National Rifle Association Annual Meetings.

"For the record let me make it extremely clear that I am extremely pro-Second Amendment and that I would never allow anyone to tamper with that right," Carson said. "We will never let the right to keep and bear arms be removed from those [generations] who follow us in this great nation."

Carson told Glenn Beck during an interview in 2013 that people should be restricted in owning semi-automatic firearms based on where they live.
