Mother Jones' Blogger Gets Tough Lesson on "Being Conservative"

On Monday, left-leaning, Mother Jones blogger Kevin Drum expressed his frustration with the backlash of hostile, twitter responses to his recent criticisms of the NSA.

“If you express anything short of absolute condemnation of everything the NSA has done, your Twitter feed quickly fills up with hysterical proclamations from the emo-progs that you're a right-wing shill, a government lackey, a useful idiot for the slave state, and an obvious fool.

Conversely, if you criticize the NSA's surveillance programs, your Twitter feed quickly fills up with equally hysterical proclamations from the O-Bots that you hate Obama, you've always hated Obama, and you're probably a racist swine who's been waiting ever since 2009 for a chance to take down the nation's first black president.”

(Note: regardless of which side of the argument you take, you’re still criticized for being a foolish, Obama-bashing, right-winger…curious how that works out.)

National Review Online contributor Charles Cooke was quick to pick up on Drum’s blog post, and responded to the reporter by welcoming him to the every-day life of a conservative.

”Welcome to my world, Kevin. Just so as you know, this rule goes also for Obamacare, the economy, foreign policy, firearms law, and absolutely every other area of public policy. I have been called a “racist” for so long now that I’m almost looking forward to a Hillary presidency so that I can be called a “sexist” instead.”

Drum’s political awakening went one step further, as he acknowledged the existence, and power, of the infamous ‘O-Bots’—people who will defend President Obama simply because he is 'Obama'—regardless of his policies or the consequences of his actions:

”I'll confess that although the leftier-than-thou types have always been around, I've long been skeptical of the idea that Obama has a core group of supporters from 2008 who really do consider him The One, a shining beacon of light who can do no wrong. But I'm the one who was wrong. I don't know how many there are, but they're definitely out there.”

They’re out there, alright, but for those on the right, O-Bots reveal themselves in many different forms. They’re not just tweeters—it’s the media, celebrities, journalists, union leaders, politicians, House minority leaders and Senate majority leaders who are willing to mock and demagogue the right solely because they disagree with Obama. Even the president himself joins in now and then; just three days ago, he used his weekly address to suggest that Republicans want to defund Obamacare and harm millions of Americans ‘just to stick it to him.’

Apparently the president thinks he and his policies are in such great standing with the American people, the Republicans' only strategy is to personally take him down; no wonder all the O-Bots are programmed to think the same way.
