"Here's the truth bomb if you're the Cruz campaign or the Rubio campaign. Unless the trajectory of this race is altered dramatically and very soon -- and unless these guys stop killing each other and splitting the non-Trump vote -- Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee."
Rubio and Cruz have each been arguing that a majority of GOP voters don't want Trump to be their standard-bearer (true so far), and that Trump cannot defeat Hillary Clinton in the fall (his fundamentals and head-to-head polling numbers are by far the weakest of the field). But as I say, none of that matters if Cruz or Rubio can't beat him. As it stands, Cruz's path to the nomination is already razor thin, if it's viable at all -- even after a less-than-assured win in Texas on Tuesday. And although Rubio's road is marginally wider at this point, he's toast if he can't turn things around in Florida in very short order. Tonight's CNN/Salem Radio Network debate in Houston will be fascinating to watch, but it's doubtful that anything that may transpire on stage will measurably impact horse race realities

Donald J. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach describes itself as “one of the most highly regarded private clubs in the world,” and it is not just the very-well-to-do who want to get in. Since 2010, nearly 300 United States residents have applied or been referred for jobs as waiters, waitresses, cooks and housekeepers there. But according to federal records, only 17 have been hired. In all but a handful of cases, Mar-a-Lago sought to fill the jobs with hundreds of foreign guest workers from Romania and other countries. In his quest for the Republican presidential nomination, Mr. Trump has stoked his crowds by promising to bring back jobs that have been snatched by illegal immigrants or outsourced by corporations, and voters worried about immigration have been his strongest backers. But he has also pursued more than 500 visas for foreign workers at Mar-a-Lago since 2010, according to the United States Department of Labor, while hundreds of domestic applicants failed to get the same jobs...Asked why his club must seek so many foreign workers when Americans have applied for the same positions, Mr. Trump said in a telephone interview from Mar-a-Lago this month: “The only reason they wouldn’t get a callback is that they weren’t qualified, for some reason. There are very few qualified people during the high season in the area.”

Really, alleged champion of the American worker? Less than ten percent of Americans who applied for those jobs were "qualified," forcing you to hire foreigners? Look, conservatives should have no problem with businesses making hiring decisions based on the competitive pressures of the free market, but Trump is posing as a protectionist fighter on behalf of downtrodden workers here at home -- the very type of workers he's declined to hire, in favor of "more qualified" service-based foreign labor. I'd be shocked if a single hardcore Trump follower were swayed by this piece of news; after all, Trump is still joking that his cult of personality would happily tolerate murder. But this could conceivably affect marginally-attached, disgruntled blue collar voters who are giving Trump a serious look. It's a political crime that none of Trump's Republican opponents bothered to dig this up and ding him on it until the New York Times broke the story after Trump has managed to put himself on what could end up being a glide path to the GOP crown. Astonishing. I'll leave you with these new data points, in case anyone cares:
