MSNBC Guest: Jesus Would Support Obamacare, So Why Don't Religious Conservatives?

Okay. But what about the millions of Americans who’ve lost their health insurance, lost their doctors or lost their jobs -- or are projected to lose their jobs -- because of Obamacare? This is compassion?

From The Corner:

I find it rather unconvincing when a pundit invokes Jesus’ name to win a political argument. After all, how could anyone hope to presume what He would -- or would not -- support?

Plus, her line of reasoning is complete nonsense. Opposing a deeply unpopular federal overhaul that is transforming one-fifth of the U.S. economy -- a law that even supportive Democrats are tired of defending -- is not the same as opposing health care reform in general, or being in favor of letting innocent people die unnecessarily. Underreported in the media, of course, is the fact that Senate Republicans recently introduced a proposal to replace Obamacare. Unfortunately, it has exactly zero chance of gaining any traction given political realities.

And yet, as policy wonk Avik Roy warns, Republicans cannot grow complacent by expecting the Affordable Care Act to just collapse; it won’t. Thus Republicans need to continue discussing -- and putting forth -- credible and better replacement plans.

Oh, and Republicans: please don't use 'Jesus would support our reforms, so you should too!' arguments after you do. Those seldom work.
