VIDEO: “Obamacare May Be Hazardous to Your Health”

The Heritage Foundation’s Chris Jacobs recently spent some time in Times Square asking New Yorkers what they thought about the president’s health care law. And, of course, you might expect that city dwellers would be singing the president’s praises and insisting that Obamacare is the greatest federal statute in the history of federal statutes. But you’d be wrong. For reasons wholly explainable, virtually every person Jacobs talked to said his or her premiums were on the rise -- despite what the president promised back in the day when he was making his pitch to the American public. “Everybody I know [said their] premiums are going up,” one man intoned in the video below. Indeed. But more to the point, the video is a sobering reminder that the Affordable Care Act’s onerous provisions are hurting real people. Take, for example, the young man in the video who ruefully explains how Obamacare is forcing his father’s employer to limit the amount of hours he can work each week. This isn’t an isolated incident, nor is it the only example of how the law is negatively impacting American families. Oftentimes, of course, we discuss the president’s health care law in generalities, using polls and studies to raise awareness about the law’s unintended consequences. But the video, I think, puts a real (or, if you like, human) face on just who is suffering. And I’ll give you a hint: it’s not members of Congress or those in positions of power.
