Trump Seeking to Seriously Expand School Choice

Back in Cleveland, Ohio on Thursday, GOP nominee Donald Trump switched the conversation from national security to education, announcing a new $20 billion plan to extend school choice to millions of Americans.

“Obviously Common Core doesn’t work,” Trump noted, after listing off several statistics showing that although the government is spending millions of dollars on education, our students are failing.

The solution? School choice for all students living in poverty, Trump said.

If we can put a man on the moon and win two world wars, then “I have no doubt we as a nation can provide school choice to every disadvantaged child in America,” Trump said.

If the states contribute part of their own budget to school choice, that could provide $12,000 to every K-12 student living in poverty, he went on to explain.

Under his plan, “the money will follow the student.”

In addition to expanding school choice for students and parents, Trump’s administration will support merit pay for teachers so that we reward our best teachers instead of relying on the failed tenure system.

It’s time to put pressure on the politicians, Trump urged.
