Cruz’s Unique Ad “Invasion” Makes Immigration An Economic Issue

The Ted Cruz campaign just released an ad that offers a unique take on the issue of illegal immigration. In the Texas senator’s new spot “Invasion,” businessmen and women are seen running across the Rio Grande – suits, briefcases, high heels and all – ready to take jobs away from Americans.

"I understand that when the mainstream media covers immigration, it doesn't often see it as an economic issue. But I can tell you, it is a very personal economic issue...And I will say, the politics of it would be very, very different if a bunch of lawyers or bankers were coming across the Rio Grande..."

Illegal immigrants make up over 5 percent of the U.S. workforce, according to the Pew Research Center. That amounts to millions of jobs snatched from Americans and their families. The Texas senator is intent on making sure Americans understand the economic effects of failing to secure our border.

Watch the effective TV spot below. Also note how Cruz couldn’t help taking a swing at the media for failing to report on the consequences of our unsecure border. Maybe if journalists were streaming across the border to compete for their jobs, he suggests, they’d pay more attention.
