Treasury Dept Plans New Iran Sanctions Following Ballistic Missile Tests

In both October and November, Iran dared to test fire ballistic missiles in violation of a UN Security Council Resolution. As a result, the U.S. is prepared to issue fresh sanctions against the nation.

In particular, the Treasury Department plans to sanction about a dozen companies and individuals in Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong, reports CNN.

Iran has responded to the sanctions threat in frustration, insisting the rocket they tested is for conventional and defense purposes only.

On Thursday, Iran’s foreign ministry denounced the Obama administration. “As we have declared to the American government ... Iran’s missile programme has no connection to the [nuclear] agreement,” state television quoted spokesman Hossein Jaber Ansari as saying.

Ansari added: “Iran will resolutely respond to any interfering action by America against its defensive programmes.”

Yet, a UN report concluded the missile had nuclear capabilities.

With these revelations, can we expect Iran to be cooperative partners as the Iran Deal goes into effect?
