LA Times: The Mandalay Bay Security Guard Has Apparently Vanished UPDATE: MGM Knows Where He Is

UPDATE: The MGM says they know where he is and that he is in fact not missing. MGM is the parent company of the Mandalay Bay resort.

MGM told the Review-Journal in a Tuesday email: “Jesus Campos wants to tell his story at a time and place of his choosing. He’s asked that everyone respect his request for privacy. We could not be more proud of Jesus.”

Jesus Campos, the security guard who was shot just prior to the massacre at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas, has apparently vanished, the LA Times is reporting. According to the president of the Security, Police, and Fire Professionals of America union, they have not had contact with Campos for the past four days. Campos was reportedly taken to a quick care facility, and has not been heard from since.

Campos also canceled interviews with a variety of news networks, and was supposed to appear on Hannity.

David Hickey, president of the Security, Police, and Fire Professionals of America union, said it had been four days since he last saw Jesus Campos.

“We have had no contact with him…. Clearly, somebody knows where he is," he said.

Hickey said he was with Campos on Thursday, coordinating a series of interviews that the guard was scheduled to give about the attack. They included appearances on the Sean Hannity show on Fox, as well as news shows on CNN, CBS, ABC and NBC. Campos was staying in a suite in a Las Vegas hotel, Hickey said.

Hickey said he was attending a meeting with MGM representatives in one room of the suite as Campos waited with a security guard — hired by MGM — and another union member in the living room.

When the meeting ended about 2 p.m., Hickey said Campos was no longer in the room.

"When I got in touch with the other union member, I was told Campos was taken to the Quick Care" health clinic, Hickey said. He didn't hear from the guard afterward and announced to a scrum of reporters that night that Campos had canceled interviews.

The timeline regarding the shooting continues to shift. Initially, Campos was credited with stopping the massacre, but then it was revealed that he had actually been shot before gunman Stephen Paddock opened fire on the concert. The timeline was adjusted yet again to place Campos' shooting to only seconds before the massacre, not six minutes. Numerous questions remain regarding just exactly what happened on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel.

It's completely understandable why someone would want to take a break from the publicity following an event as tragic as the Las Vegas shooting. But still, with all of the rumors swirling and general unease, perhaps it'd be a good idea if he gave someone a heads' up that he was okay.

This post will be updated if Campos' whereabouts become known.
