Nobel Peace Prize Winner Elie Wiesel Has Passed Away At Age 87

Holocaust survivor and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Elie Wiesel passed away on Saturday. He was 87.

Wiesel was the author of Night, an autobiographical account of his experience with his father in the Buchenwald and Auschwitz death camps as a teen. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 for his work against racism and violence.

Israeli Prime Minister Benajamin Netanyahu issued a statement regarding Weisel's passing, saying that Weisel was a "ray of light" in the middle of unspeakable atrocities.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu mourned the passing of Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel on Saturday, saying that he "gave expression to the victory of the human spirit over cruelty and evil, through his extraordinary personality and his fascinating books."

Netanyahu said that "in the darkness of the Holocaust, in which our sisters and brothers were killed - six million - Elie Wiesel served as a ray of light and example of humanity who believed in the goodness in people."

Others took to Twitter to mourn Wiesel's passing, as well as to echo his messages of peace.

Rest in peace.
