Brit Hume Says What We've All Been Thinking About MSM 'Journalists' Covering The Russia Story

Fox News Senior Political Analyst Brit Hume appeared on "Special Report With Bret Baier" on Monday to analyze and discuss the media's coverage of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation. During the discussion, Hume slammed the mainstream media, calling their coverage of the story "the worst journalistic debacle" of his lifetime.

"If you think about, Bret, this investigation actually goes back to the middle of 2016 so its been going on for quite a long time and this endless speculation about it, indeed the accusations about it, came out of many mouths on cable television and in the public prints," Hume explained.

According to the Senior Political Analyst, not many in the media learned from making the assumption that Secretary Hillary Clinton would win the 2016 election.

"The list of people who got it wrong is really quite extensive and, you know, to include many news organizations that got the prospect of Donald Trump being elected in the first place badly wrong and seem not to learn very much from that," Hume said rather bluntly.

That's when he tore into the mainstream media, calling their reporting a "debacle."

"One hopes, and expects perhaps, that after this debacle – and that's exactly what it is – and the worst journalistic debacle of my lifetime, that they will be some serious soul searching. Unfortunately, so far, Bret, I'm not seeing a lot of it. I'm noticing that a couple of our cable news competitors have moved kind of seamlessly on to speculation about obstruction of justice now following, as they so often do, the Democratic Party script. Remarkable."

According to Hume, the Russia collusion story was a greater failure than the coverage of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction story, referred to as Iraq WMD, because the breakdown came from an intelligence failure, not a journalistic failure.

"I think the Iraq WMD coverage was really basically driven by an intelligence failure. It was not a failure by journalists. And people believed Saddam Hussein had WMD because, you know, every intelligence service on the earth basically thought the same thing. Every voice in Congress said the same thing and he never really quite denied it. In fact, he behaved as if he had them all along," Hume said. "Reporters mostly reported what officials were saying about it. The officials turned out to be wrong because the intelligence was wrong. A lot of what we saw here was not just reporting."

Hume also took the opportunity to slam Ex-CIA Director John Brennan for a poor excuse he made earlier this week, claiming he received wrong information.

"Brennan apparently said something this morning to the effect, well, maybe he was misinformed and this didn't quite turn out the way he expected it to," Hume explained. "Well, I guess. And those guys have a lot to answer for too it seems to me and so do the news organizations that credulously put on the air what they had to say over and over and over and over again without really any evidentiary support. It was really quite remarkable, Bret."
