Former aide to Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and progressive radio host Chris Hahn appeared on "Tucker Carlson Tonight" on Friday to discuss the border wall. Specifically, Hahn and Carlson talked about the possibility of President Donald Trump circumventing Congress and declaring a national emergency to build the border wall.
In a rather strange turn of events, Hahn compared the border wall's "morality" issue – the talking point Speaker Nancy Pelosi keeps spewing – to that of gun owners and the Second Amendment.
"Look, I don't think she [Pelosi] means it [morality] in a good verses evil religious way," Hahn said.
"What other way is there?" Carlson said.
"I think she means it in a this is a colossally stupid, colossally stupid thing to build when a guy with a latter who's a foot taller and a rope to get down the other side will beat it," Hahn said. "And to borrow the NRA's argument though, if we put a wall up though to block out illegal, you know people from coming here to want to harm us, people who come here legally are going to be the only ones stopped by that wall because people who are going to come here illegally or to harm us are going to figure out a way around it, just like they're going to figure out how to get guns."
"Oh, so they're going to get their own wall?" Carlson fired back. "I think, I think I'm following you. So they're going to get their own wall? They're going to get it on the black market and bring their wall to our wall and beat it? Is that what you're saying, just to continue the metaphor?"

Hahn laughed and then continued, "No, no. Law-abiding people will be stopped by the wall but the people who wish to break our laws will avoid the wall. That's the right's argument for everything! It should be accepted here too!"

There have been a lot of really dumb comparisons, especially when it comes to the border wall, but this one takes the cake.
First of all, the right to keep and bear arms is a God-given right that is protected in the United States Constitution. It's something our founding fathers believed in deeply, which is why it's the Second Amendment, right after our right to free speech.
Second, no one has a right to come to the United States. Progressives often make the argument that everyone deserves to come to America. That's not the case. Becoming an American citizen is a privilege, not a right. Making the assumption that anyone and everyone deserves to come to our country is idiotic. How do we know that those who are coming to this country, especially illegally, are just "wanting to make a better life" and that their intentions are pure? How do we know, for a fact, that they're not looking to harm Americans?
That's the difference between conservatives and progressives though. Progressives are quick to give every single person the benefit of the doubt, time and time again. Conservatives will give people the benefit of the doubt but we know that there is evil in this world. That's why we verify their stories and their identity. As Reagan said, "Trust but verify."
