The author of the anonymous New York Times op-ed last year critical of President Trump is coming out with a book next month titled, “A Warning.”
In the September 2018 opinion piece, the author claimed to be "part of the resistance inside the Trump administration" and the book is expected to expand upon the column, giving “an unprecedented behind-the-scenes portrait of the Trump presidency.”
“Picking up from where those first words of warning left off, this explosive book offers a shocking, firsthand account of President Trump and his record,” says a statement about the book’s release.
The unidentified author is listed as a “senior Trump administration official,” but publishers and the author’s agent would not confirm whether or not that person is still working for the government, The Washington Times reports.
“There obviously will be those who want the author to reveal themselves publicly, but there are good reasons for that not to happen,” agent Matt Latimer told The Washington Post. “The author feels their identity is almost irrelevant because there is scarcely a sentiment expressed in this book that is not shared by numerous others who have served and continue to serve this administration at its highest levels.”
The Times faced backlash for its decision to publish the column anonymously, and critics are similarly outraged over an entire book being published this way.
"It takes a lot of conviction and bravery to write a whole book anonymously," White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham said in a statement to the Post about the book.
