Council's Resolution Against Trump Is Another Prime Example of Hollywood's Hypocrisy

Donald Trump loves to be number one, but we doubt he’d be thrilled to be the first celebrity to have his star wiped from the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The West Hollywood City Council unanimously approved a resolution on Monday urging the City of Los Angeles and the Hollywood Chamber of Congress to remove Trump’s star because of his “disturbing treatment of women and other actions” that do not fall in line with community’s “shared values.”

“[A]llowing Mr. Trump to continue to have a star in light of his behavior toward women, particularly in the time #timesup and #metoo movements, should not be acceptable in the Hollywood and entertainment industry,” the resolution states.

West Hollywood Mayor John Duran insists that the Council “did not pass the resolution because Donald Trump is a conservative or a Republican.”

“Earning a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is an honor,” he told NBC news. “When one belittles and attacks minorities, immigrants, Muslims, people with disabilities or women—the honor no longer exists.”

But if that’s the case, then where are the resolutions demanding Harvey Weinstein, Brett Ranter and Kevin Spacey be stripped of the honor? Each have been accused of indefensible acts, and still their names can be found among the sea of stars lining Hollywood Boulevard.

According to Hollywood Chamber of Congress President Leron Gubler, a star has never been removed from the Walk of Fame because its considered part of the Walk’s “historic fabric.”

Still, the Chamber will refer the Council’s resolution to its executive committee “for consideration at their next meeting.”

“As of now, there are no plans to remove any stars from the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” Gubler told NBC News. He also reminded everyone that the West Hollywood City Council doesn’t have the authority to remove the star itself.

So for now, it sounds like Trump’s star is safe—just not from nutjobs with pickaxes and sledgehammers
