Here's How One Restaurant Manager (And Its Corporation) Treated a Man in a MAGA Hat

Last month, Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was denied service at a Virginia restaurant because of her political ideology. This week, a Trump supporter in Canada received the same treatment.

The manager of a popular tourist restaurant in Vancouver reportedly told a customer wearing a “Make American Great Again” hat that he could either remove his red cap or leave. The man chose the later.

Andy Crimp, the general manager of the restaurant, the Teahouse in Stanley Park, further explained to CBC what went down.

When Darin Hodge, the floor manager on duty that night, saw the customer sitting on the restaurant’s patio with his MAGA hat on, he allegedly “took over the table” and demanded the customer remove the supposedly offensive cap.

The man answered back that he “had a right to wear it,” to which Hodge said, “If you don't take the hat off, we won't serve you.” The man got up an left—and he’s not only one who won’t be returning to the restaurant.

The Sequoia Company, which owns the Teahouse in Stanley Park, says Hodge was fired for not following its “philosophy of tolerance.”

"[Hodge] was aware what he was doing was probably contrary to our values and our philosophy as a company in terms of hospitality and inclusiveness,” added Crimp. "We don't discriminate against people based on political beliefs."

Of course, Hodge says he has zero regrets about how he treated the customer.

“I stand by my decision,” he wrote on Facebook. “The MAGA hat has come to symbolize racism, bigotry, Islamophobia, misogyny, white supremacy, [and] homophobia.”

“As a person with a strong moral backbone, I had to take a stand against this guest's choice of headwear while in my former place of work. Absolutely no regrets," he concluded.

And liberals say we’re the intolerant ones.
