Actress Margot Robbie, who has been married to her husband Tom Ackerley for a decade, finally decided to change her last name to her husband's — something countless women do every year. That's how it should be, of course. When you are united in marriage, you should take your husband's name to form a cohesive family unit. You are one, a team, and should reflect that to the world.

The newly minted Mrs. Ackerley will keep Robbie as her professional name, which is also not uncommon. I do it too, adopting Curtis as my pen name for a variety of reasons. But because it's become painfully clear that women in 2026 cannot have any agency or make any choices for themselves that their feminist betters do not approve of, a Guardian writer wants us to know Robbie's personal choice as "broken her beautiful lesbian brain."

Here's more (emphasis added):

Being a lesbian in a heretofore heteronormative society means having to go along with lots of things that don’t make sense to your beautiful lesbian brain. One such thing for me is the ongoing expectation that women who marry men should change their surname to their husband’s.

Last week my tolerance was tested again when it was revealed that after a decade of marriage, Margot Robbie has changed her surname to that of her husband, Tom Ackerley.

Margot Ackerley – it simply rolls off the tongue. She will remain Margot Robbie in her public life, and we don’t know why she has done this, but it has nonetheless caused a stir. We got the usual discourse of blah blah tradition, blah blah patriarchy, blah blah women’s individual choice and so on.

We all know how it goes and Margot is not alone in doing this, of course. The statistics are hard to pin down (bearing in mind I dropped out of psychology at uni because of the statistics part) but I think it’s safe to say that in the overwhelming majority of straight marriages, the woman changes her name to the man’s. I see this in every part of my social life, from friends back home who married directly out of high school to my cabal of highly educated urban feminist friends. I play my part by putting all my married male friends in my phone under their wives’ surnames.

Putting your male friends in the phone by their wives' surnames is incredibly disrespectful and utterly meaningless. But that's feminism for you.

The subhead on the article says, "I don’t flip a table every time this happens – but I actually do mind when it’s the default decision with no discussion." It took Robbie a decade to make the name change, so what do you mean there was no discussion? Ten years isn't good enough for you?

All these so-called feminists are doing, of course, is arguing that women should keep their father's name instead of taking their husband's. Girl power, or something.

This is simply the rotten ideology of modern feminism and modern leftism — both seek to destroy the nuclear family, undermine marriage and, above all, attack and ostracize men (and the women who love and respect them). I always believed taking my husband's surname was a sign of respect and an acknowledgment that he's the head of the household, the father of our children, and that he deserves a unified family. Chipping away at this unity, this foundation, is part of the plan to dismantle the family structure. Democrat William Lawrence called the nuclear family a violent way to organize society, but legislation to break up families would a) not pass any legitimate government body, b) be overturned by courts, and c) create massive legal and economic trouble. So instead, they find ways to undermine, break down, and discourage familial bonds. Not taking your husband's last name may seem small, but it sends a message that runs beneath the entire marriage: we are not one, we are not a team, we are not united. That only amplifies and exacerbates the normal trials and tribulations a couple faces, making it harder to overcome them together.

Writers like this Guardian hack are so insulated from the rest of the world that their "beautiful brains" cannot comprehend that there are tens of millions of other women who don't despise men the way they do. On top of that, I thought feminism was about respecting women's choices. Or does that only apply when she wants to abort her unborn child? Because whatever wave of feminism this most recent one is, it's clear that many women's choices — to say no to men in their locker rooms, to take their husband's last name, to have children and raise them — are not tolerated or respected. Just look at what they did with Sydney Sweeney's hot Novig ad; they demonized her for using her sexuality, claimed she undermined women's sports, and disrespected women's bodies. They ignored, of course, the dozens of female athletes who also posed nude and years of feminist rhetoric that told women to embrace their bodies and celebrate their sexuality (turns out they only wanted fat, ugly chicks to do that).

Then again, by acknowledging and tolerating that women have the freedom to make choices — even choices the Left disagrees with — they're also acknowledging that they don't have total control over everyone else's lives. And that's intolerable to them.
