'1917' Portrays British Soldiers in World War I - And Critics Are Loving the Cinematography

It's already received a few Golden Globe nominations and has an impressive 93 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. And now "1917" is officially heading to theaters on Christmas Day. The feature follows two young British soldiers during World War I whose mission it is to try and stop over 1,000 troops from stepping into a German ambush on the Western Front. The pair of lance corporals are portrayed by Dean Charles Chapman and George MacKay, with a supporting cast that includes familiar names like Richard Madden, Colin Firth and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes recently got candid about how the film pays homage to his grandfather, Alfred Mendes, who was a runner in WWI.

Critics are calling "1917" a stunning technical achievement because Mendes makes the bold decision to shoot it in one, long continuous take.

Watch the trailer below! "1917" is in limited release on Christmas Day, and nationwide on January 10.
