Chris Evans 'Hopes' Tom Brady Is Not Really a Trump Supporter

Actor Chris Evans is best known for being Captain America, but like many celebrities in the President Trump era, he's also become somewhat of a political figure. He frequently challenges the president on Twitter and in interviews, and now he's helping launching a new campaign of sorts. A Starting Point is advertised as a politics website whose mission is "to create informed, responsible and empathetic citizens." Evans has also visited Capitol Hill recently to chat with lawmakers - Republican and Democrat - to talk about education and criminal justice reform.

But, he avoided the Oval Office. Evans is so opposed to POTUS that he is even urging New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady to cut ties with him. Brady is a longtime friend of Trump's. They've played more than one round of golf together and media threw a fit when they spotted a Make America Great Again hat in his locker. Now, Brady's chummy relationship with Trump has Evans thinking twice about the opportunity to play the football star on the big screen.

"I don't know," he says. "I really hope he's not a Trump supporter. I'm just hoping he's one of those guys that maybe supported him and now regrets it. Maybe he thought it was going to be different — and even that bothers me — but maybe there's a chance now he just thinks Trump's an absolute dumb shit, which he is. If he doesn't, if he's still on that Trump train, I might have to cut ties. It's really tough."

"I think maybe a couple of years ago," he continues, "I might have tried to pull some, like, mental gymnastics to compartmentalize, but I don't know if I can anymore. So I'm just hoping he's woken up." (The Hollywood Reporter)

When Boston.com shared Evans's opinion Brady on Twitter, some noted that the Patriot probably won't lose sleep over it.

While Evans did chat briefly about politics in the THR interview, most of their discussion was centered on the upcoming Avengers: Endgame film, the latest installment in the Marvel universe. No one will ever agree on politics, but we can all at least agree we're pumped to see the Avengers take on Thanos once more right? Right??
