Meet the Future of the Republican Party in Arizona

A conservative D.A. in rural Arizona is changing the state’s landscape — for the better. With the state in chaos due to botched elections, patriots are desperately in need of a leader to stand up and unite the base. Enter Pinal County Attorney Brad Miller, who was elected to office over a year ago, defeating a two-term incumbent backed by the Pinal County Board of Supervisors and amplified by the local media establishment. That was not an accident. It was a rejection.

At the time Miller took office, the chairman of the supervisors was already entrenched, serving his fourth term. Miller is different. He is the outlier, the one official who did not come up through the insider pipeline. He represents a fast-growing Republican county that believes in law and order, accountability and putting citizens first. He answers to voters, not to political clubs, legacy institutions or media gatekeepers. Miller is one of us, not one of them.

Before taking office, he represented the previous Arizona Republican Party Chair Kelli Ward and her husband against Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes’ prosecution of them for serving as alternate Republican electors for President Donald Trump in the 2020 election. Miller is fearless when it comes to the establishment.

The Liberty University-educated lawyer received a Top 10 Defense Verdicts award from the State of Arizona in 2019 for achieving successful federal case jury verdicts and significant settlements. He conducted pro bono work for veterans and Phoenix educational institutions. While working in the Maricopa County Attorney's Office's Special Victims Unit, he prosecuted high-profile cases involving sexual crimes, securing numerous jury verdicts and receiving the Justice Achievement Award for seven consecutive life-time convictions. Miller has served in the United States Marine Corps since 2010, currently holding the position of Staff Judge Advocate for the 4th Marine Division.

Since taking office, he has aggressively pursued the agenda he articulated during his campaign. One of his issues is the Second Amendment. He said, “The governor and democrats want to take away your right to defend yourself, while at the same time reducing the power of the police. … I will protect your right to own a gun!”

His office publicly announced lengthy prison sentences for violent offenders and takes a tough-on-crime stance on crimes against children and other vulnerable populations. Miller obtained a jury conviction and prison sentence of 17 years for a man who committed aggravated assault on a police officer and unlawful flight (Jonathon Altland faces separate charges by Maricopa County prosecutors for the murder of a police officer who was killed later the same day, pursuing Altland in his vehicle).

Some of Miller’s initiatives have drawn attention beyond county lines, including an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) 287(g) agreement to assist in identifying removable offenders, which has prompted debate about local-federal cooperation and legal authority. While the sheriff handles immigration status at the jail, the PCAO’s Task Force Model addresses threats in the community before a crime is committed or a victim is created.

The county attorney is an independently elected official with the duty to protect the public, which includes investigating the very crimes they are tasked with prosecuting. The use of existing investigators is a "force multiplier" that uses current resources to gain federal authority, rather than an unauthorized diversion of funds.

But the entrenched Florence establishment has met multiple times behind closed doors to find ways to counter Miller’s ability to be proactive and forward-thinking in his approach. The establishment wants ICE agents off the streets of Pinal County!

The supervisors claim PCAO is not law enforcement and is attempting to use the sheriff as part of their battle by having him review an ICE jail agreement that he claimed needed to be updated with a new PIO. It hadn’t been updated since 2008. They said Miller cannot partner with ICE on the proactive Task Force Model of community policing on the streets — the only agreement of its kind in Arizona.

Miller responded, “The Board of Supervisors says our 287(g) agreement is ‘void.’ Prove it. Since December, we have repeatedly asked the Board for the legal authority supporting that claim, and they have provided none to our office. A claim without communication does not justify pulling our ICE partners off the street and weakening public safety.”

He issued a statement backing up his assertion. “The County Attorney’s Office rejects that conclusion and maintains a press statement does not terminate a federal agreement,” Miller said. He cited communication from ICE confirming that the agreement was still in place until terminated by his office or ICE.

Miller is an independently elected constitutional officer, not a department head reporting to the supervisors. His duty is to the voters, not the supervisors’ appointed lawyers. Miller’s prosecutorial philosophy and willingness to engage on high-profile legal issues underscore his view that the county attorney should not merely enforce the law but actively shape community safety and uphold constitutional order.

The sheriff’s Jail Model for checking the status of illegal immigrants is reactive — it only works after a crime has been committed and the suspect is caught. The Task Force Model is proactive, putting ICE-trained investigators on the streets to prevent crimes before they happen.

This is deja vu for those of us in Maricopa County, where the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors came after former Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas, getting him disbarred when he tried to stop their corruption. The current supervisors have taken away much of the office from election integrity champion Maricopa County Recorder Justin Heap.

Patriots are currently divided in Arizona, with a very contentious Republican Party election of officers that took place on Saturday. Miller is the one elected official in the state with the capability of uniting them, and he has the record and guts to be the leader Arizona needs.
