The election is just five weeks away. In addition to the possibility of picking up the White House, Republicans are also hoping to pick up an important congressional seat in North Carolina. Congressional candidate Richard Hudson is a business owner and has held various positions with former Congressman Robin Hayes. One of the issues on the minds of voters, particularly in North Carolina, is the economy. Hudson said, “North Carolina’s current unemployment rate is 9.7% — one of the highest in the country. Rather than burdening our businesses with new regulations and taxes, our elected officials should be looking for ways to improve the business climate. We need smart economic policy and we need it now!”

In July, Hudson won the Republican primary and then the run-off election with 64% of the votes. As the general election nears, both candidates are reaching out to the constituents in the mostly conservative district. However, there’s only one real conservative in the race that will vote for policies to get the economy moving again. Too often we’ve been burned by so-called conservative or “blue dog” Democrats. If voters want conservative solutions, vote for the conservative.

1. If there were a television channel that showed only one movie over and over, what movie should it be?

The original...Star Wars Episode IV. It never gets old for me. Although, I have to admit the light saber battle between Obi Wan and Darth Vader is not as terrifying as it was the first time I saw it in the theatre.

2. What’s one of your favorite movie quotes?

"I am going to pick a fight" --Mel Gibson as William Wallace in "Braveheart" [the quote is much cooler if done with a Scottish accent...while wearing blue war paint....maybe wearing a kilt isn't necessary] or "Yeah, I have a question. Does Barry Manilow know you raid his wardrobe?" --Judd Nelson as John Bender speaking to his Principal in "The Breakfast Club"

3. In A Clockwork Orange, Malcolm McDowell is strapped in with his eyes propped open and forced to watch images until he was "cured." If you could give President Obama, Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Leader Harry Reid the "Clockwork Orange treatment," what movie would you make them watch?

"Pursuit of Happyness"- One man picks himself up by the bootstraps by learning to be a stockbroker...doesn't need welfare.

4. What pop culture souvenir do you own that people would be surprised to learn that you cherish?

My U2 "Unforgettable Fire" album signed by Bono-- He wrote, "Bono 4 Ricardo."

5. What's your current “guilty pleasure” non-news television show?

I love “Duck Dynasty”! It is the best show on television-- combining shotguns, camouflage, humor and family values. Season Two starts October 10th on A&E. I can't wait!

6. What’s the best present you ever received as a child?

My Grandfather gave me a 12-ga Browning shotgun when I was ten years old. I treasure that gun to this day...along with many memories of carrying that gun into the field with my Grandfather.

7. What was the first concert you ever attended and where did you sit and who went with you?

My parents took me to a Keith Green concert in 1980 or 1981 in Hampton Roads, VA. I was probably 8 or 9 years old. We didn't have great seats, but I can still picture Keith singing, "So you want to go back to Egypt..." Everyone in the building was singing along.

8. What advice do you remember your mother or father giving you? Did you take it?

My dad told me I better ask Renee to marry me...thank goodness I listened to him.

9. If Republicans and Democrats had theme songs for 2012 what would they be?

I have to go to two of my favorite bands to answer this one. Democrats-"Give Me Just a Little More Time" by Chairman of the Board. Republicans-"Revolution" by the Beatles "You say you'll change the constitution/ Well, you know/ We all want to change your head... But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao/ You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow/ Don't you know it's gonna be all right"

10. What would you like tomorrow's headline to say?

"ELVIS IS ALIVE! Concert tour coming this Summer" ...and World Peace.

11. What books were on your summer reading list?

"Tehran Initiative" by Joel Rosenberg, "Protect and Defend" by Vince Flynn, "One Second After" by William R. Forstchen, Brad Thor's first 4 novels (currently on #5) and "Deer Cameras: The Science of Scouting."

12. Tell me about the moment you decided to enter the political arena.

I have been a "behind the scenes" activist for most of my life. I worked for people I believed were making a difference to advance the conservative vision I held for America. This was rewarding work and I had no intention of ever running for office myself. But, I got to the point almost exactly one year ago that I was just fed up with the direction of the country and with a Congressman who talked one way back home and voted another way in Washington. I decided I needed to do something about it.
