It's Always Open Season on the Christian Faith

At what point in a nation where approximately 80% of the citizens identify themselves as "Christians" will Christian candidates defend themselves and their faith from the bigoted and deliberate smears of far-left journalists?

The latest attack comes courtesy of Time magazine. During an interview with Republican Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina, liberal editor Belinda Luscombe amazingly asks:

In New York City, which you're visiting for a couple of days, a lot of our taxi drivers are Sikhs. If you get one, are you going to give them a slightly bigger tip?"

Are you kidding me? Did this far-left "journalist" just go there?

Of course she did. Why? Simple: because Haley, who is now a Christian, was born into a Sikh family, because she's a conservative and because she's a Republican.

Political correctness aside, does anyone honestly believe that this reporter would ask such an insulting and bigoted question of a Jewish or Muslim elected official? Especially if that official happened to be a liberal Democrat? Of course not.

But this liberal journalist knows that she has immunity. Again, why? Because in the far-left mainstream media, in Hollywood and in our "educational" system, it's always open season on Christians.

For the latest Hollywood attack on Christianity and traditional values, look no further than ABC's vile new show titled "GCB," which stands for "Good Christian Bit**es."

These far-left bigots and haters know they have immunity because they also believe that Christians (even if that is the majority faith in our country) won't defend themselves. Let alone their conservative Christian leaders. And guess what? They are mostly correct.

At what point do the likes of Nikki Haley and all-but-certain Republican nominee Mitt Romney scream "enough is enough" and start to defend themselves and their faith against these deliberate smears?

News flash to these Republicans leaders. In the post-9/11 world we inhabit, as chaos reigns, as our economy continues to sputter, as our traditional values are being targeted one by one by this administration and its allies, conservative, Republican and independent voters want and need elected officials who demonstrate they have a backbone and are willing to fight for those shared values.

As an independent conservative, do I think Romney is as conservative as I am or other like-minded conservatives? No.

That said, as one who got to help his campaign around the edges back in 2008, I know Gov. Romney to be an incredibly decent man who truly does have the best interests of our nation at heart.

As such, I just wish he (and other Christian leaders) would do a better job of defending themselves.

Do I want a religious litmus test for any elected official? Absolutely not. None. Zero. That said, I'd rather not see my faith smeared and attacked time and again by those on the far left who are pushing a socialist agenda.

Whether he or his campaign want to admit it or not, Gov. Romney's faith has not only already become an issue, but is a focal point of attack by the smear-merchants of the far left. While at the moment, Maureen Dowd of the New York Times is carrying the baton for those attacks, others on the far left are sprinting to her side to expand the attacks against Romney and his faith.

Once again, why? Because they believe that he won't defend himself, and more importantly, because they can count.

They remember that Obama won a few states by razor-thin margins in 2008. For them now, it's all about voter suppression. They know that between 2004 and 2008 somewhere between 3 million to 4 million Republican voters stayed home. They want and need to match or exceed that number in 2012.

In their bigoted minds, one of the easiest ways to suppress the Romney vote come November would be to create doubt about him and his faith.

They also know that not only will virtually no one from the mainstream media call them on this vile attack, but many (along with the "entertainment" community) will join them in this un-American campaign.

Maureen Dowd, Time magazine and other liberal outlets have mockingly telegraphed their intentions. The only question left being will these Christian politicians defend themselves, their faith and their very rights as American citizens?

In 2012, a backbone will be a huge plus to most voters.
