Is Joe Biden Senile or Just Dumb?

Sometimes it is difficult to know whether or not Joe Biden is senile or just dumb. I know it's tempting to ascribe everything he does to his dementia, but he's been stupid for his whole life. Even people suffering from dementia have moments of lucidity, so it's really impossible to know what is the true motivation behind the president's asininity. The effects and the facts of it, however, are easy and important to dissect, because whether it's due to him losing his grip on reality, that he's just a very simple and dumb man, or a combination of both doesn't really matter, what matters is the end result.

There are, of course, countless examples of Joe Biden saying or doing things that are untethered to reality. He regularly lies about his own life – in his first presidential run in 1987, he snapped at a questioner who dared to ask about his grade, famously going off on a rant about his own brilliance and accomplishments, all of which were lies (you'd think he'd know his own life's story) – and this was before his senility, he was in his 40s at the time.

A few months after making a complete fool of himself there, Biden suffered two brain aneurysms, doing untold damage to something already not functioning properly. Joe Biden has never been playing with a full deck, now he doesn't even seem to be playing with cards.

In his lie-filled speech about his failures in Afghanistan, rather than address the reality that he'd decided an arbitrary deadline he'd created out of nothing was more important than the lives of American citizens, he pretended leaving hundreds, if not thousands, of Americans behind was a wonderful accomplishment. It was rather gross, actually, considering there are dozens of school kids from California among them and not a single Democrat seems to give a damn.

That speech presents a lot of opportunities to highlight just how much of a fraud or doddering old man Biden is. I want to take a moment to showcase one, a big one, and let you decide if it's because Biden is senile or stupid.

Early in the speech, always wanting to claim credit for everything, Joe says, "In April, I made the decision to end this war. As part of that decision, we set the date of August 31st for American troops to withdraw. The assumption was that more than 300,000 Afghan National Security Forces that we had trained over the past two decades and equipped would be a strong adversary in their civil wars with the Taliban. That assumption — that the Afghan government would be able to hold on for a period of time beyond military drawdown — turned out not to be accurate."

Putting aside the first part for a minute, that last bit is a lie. He knew things were going down in Afghanistan, having just asked their former president to lie to the world in order to help Biden's flagging poll numbers back home. A classic quid-pro-quo that until the very moment Joe committed it, Democrats insisted was an impeachable offense for just over a year. It's not anymore, apparently.

That first part – Joe declaring he decided to end the war – is also a lie.

A few minutes later, Joe admitted, "My predecessor had made a deal with the Taliban. When I came into office, we faced a deadline — May 1. The Taliban onslaught was coming. We faced one of two choices: Follow the agreement of the previous administration and extend it to have — or extend to more time for people to get out; or send in thousands of more troops and escalate the war."

Biden, after trying to take credit for ending the war moments earlier, wants people to think Donald Trump is responsible for his abandoning people to a hostile force. That he was faced with a Sophie’s Choice – leave or commit to all-out war. It wasn't true, it was never true (he'd already moved the date from May 1 to September 11, only so he could announce in his 20th-anniversary address that he'd ended the war on that day). And besides, he's commander-in-chief of the most powerful military in the history of the planet; if you need a few more days to get everyone one, or need to go outside your perimeter to secure them, you don’t need to ask permission of cavemen to do it. If the bearded child molesters decide to challenge that decision, ventilate their innards.

The president's first job in foreign policy is to protect the American people. Joe Biden didn't do that, choosing instead to be the coward he's been since his alleged fight with Corn Pop and five draft deferments for perhaps the only case of asthma worthy of other people taking his place in war that also allowed him to be a football star back home. Maybe it was situational asthma?

Whether Joe Biden tells such blatant lies because he's dumb and thinks he can get away with it or he's senile and doesn't realize he's doing it doesn't really matter. It's the lies themselves, particularly the ease with which they flow from this man and his people, that matter more than the motivation for them.
