It's Different When Biden Does It

In politics, there are rules for Democrats and rules for Republicans. They are not the same, not even close, and each set of rules is an ever-changing word salad ready to be tossed in whatever way leftists demand they be depending upon the situation. Things that, say, Donald Trump did while president which were met with outrage are met with silence when surpassed by Joe Biden. In the mail this week came a prime example of just this fact to millions of Americans.

An April 14, 2020, Washington Post “news” story entitled, “In unprecedented move, Treasury orders Trump’s name printed on stimulus checks,” birthed yet another “scandal,” according to the Democrat media.

The story started simply, if buffoonishly, enough with, “The Treasury Department has ordered President Trump’s name printed on stimulus checks the Internal Revenue Service is rushing to send to tens of millions of Americans, a process that could slow their delivery by a few days, senior IRS officials said.”

This was a scandal, the Post declared. “The unprecedented decision, finalized late Monday, means that when recipients open the $1,200 paper checks the IRS is scheduled to begin sending to 70 million Americans in coming days, ‘President Donald J. Trump’ will appear on the left side of the payment,” the Post reported. “It will be the first time a president’s name appears on an IRS disbursement, whether a routine refund or one of the handful of checks the government has issued to taxpayers in recent decades either to stimulate a down economy or share the dividends of a strong one.”

You name the Democrat and you can find a quote from them declaring this move everything from outrageous to dictatorial. Yes, they really are that insane.

Well, the other day a friend of mine received a letter from the President of the United States of America, on official White House letterhead, no less, and posted in an Internal Revenue Service envelope. What did this missive from our senile leader declare?

Biden starts by recounting previous “stimulus” payments, including him taking credit for something done before he was president. “A key part of the American Rescue Plan is direct payments of $1,400 per person for most Americans households,” the letter reads. “With the $600 direct payment from December, this brings the total relief payment up to $2,000. This fulfills a promise I made to you, and will help get millions of Americans through this crisis.”

But Biden wasn’t done patting himself on the back for massive spending and cutting checks to people. “I am pleased to inform you that because of the American Rescue Plan, a direct payment of $5,600.00 was issued to you by paper check/debit card,” the letter announces. Happy days are here again!

Where does all this money come from? Does Joe Biden possess a magic unicorn that, when fed grass clippings, poops $20 bills? No mention of that in the letter, but it seems unlikely.

More curious to me is the lack of any outrage over a taxpayer funded letter, clearly political in nature, being sent out to tens of millions of Americans. Where are the people and outlets upset over a signature on a check most people wouldn’t have noticed? They don’t seem to care. The only differences appear to be the letter is unambiguously designed to raise people’s feelings about Biden and that it’s a Democrat doing it this time. The media shares the desire of the former point, and actually are the latter.

That being said, with the letter coming in an IRS envelope, there’s a good chance a lot of people won’t open it right away, or at all. Who wants to open anything from the IRS? The only thing more terrifying is finding yourself in a medical emergency and the only person who responds to a request for a doctor is Jill Biden.

“This bill was passed to provide emergency relief to millions of Americans,” the letter concludes. “I want to be sure you receive all the benefits you are entitled to.” The back of the letter contains the exact same words, only this time in Spanish. Since, at least theoretically, by law you must have a basic functionality in English to become an American citizen, the need for a Spanish version seems curious. But when you’re going to pander on the taxpayer’s dime, you don’t pander half way.
