Reporting on the Mirror – CBS NEWS / “60 MINUTES”

  • Man, learning to report accurately sure is costly!

There has been a fair amount of melodrama surrounding the ongoing legal battle with “60 Minutes” and the president. Last week, one of their top editors resigned, after being told to commit to journalism better, and this Sunday, host Scott Pelley got snippy at the end of the show over the developments. Now, we see it may all have been fruitless.

Outlets are reporting that it appears as if the network, and parent company Paramount, are about to reach a pre-trial settlement deal with President Trump. Whoo boy, if only Bill Owens had held out for just one more week!

Artisanally-Crafted Narratives – CBS NEWS

  • And on the subject of not learning a lesson…

Meanwhile, the newly revamped “Evening News” continues in its inept partisanship. In a report about an Afghan man who works here in the U.S. with Catholic Charities, the duo of Maurice DuBois and John Dickerson led off with a scathing indictment of President Trump’s deportation policies and how the recently departed Pope Francis opposed this and was deeply pro-immigration.

One issue: President Trump had nothing to do with the story of the man and his charitable work. However, the man came to the States as a result of the fiasco that was the Joe Biden withdrawal from Afghanistan – and guess which former president was never mentioned…?

Prose & Contradiction -- REUTERS

  • This could be an all-time great in this category.

When it comes to the headline conflict frequently seen it is usually found in a nugget of facts buried deep in the piece. This one is a gem for the ages, concerning the fact that Spain just experienced the worst blackout in its history after crowing about moving its power grid to renewable energy.

REUTERS HEADLINE: "Don't Blame Renewables"

SECOND SENTENCE: "Blackout linked to sharp and rapid drop in power, possibly from solar generation."

FOURTH SENTENCE: "Rather, the issue appears to be the management of renewables in the modern grid."

So, the cause was renewable energy, they just don't want anyone BLAMING it on renewable energy.

Both Kinds of Standards – VARIOUS OUTLETS

  • There’s one wrong in every crowd.

So over the weekend, they held the funeral for Pope Francis, and there was a shrill excitement in the media. Why? Because…(you’ll want to sit for this)...despite Vatican protocol, President Trump did not wear a black suit!

This initially spread faster than a Canadian wildfire, but then a series of revisions were issued – when it was realized that a great many in attendance also wore blue mourning attire.

This led to some truly hilarious “Yeah but…” types of recanting.

One of the best was fashion expert Derek Guy, who initially declared that only a black ensemble is acceptable, but then upon learning Joe Biden had been spotted in a blue blazer changed gears to say his dark blue was acceptable, but not Trump’s.

Simply pathetic and hilarious.

Demolition Project – LOS ANGELES TIMES

  • Another major outlet is on the ropes.

Jeff Bezos and the Washington Post can take heart, to a degree; they are not the only major newspaper facing disaster.

Over at AdWeek, they report that from inside the LA Times, it has been learned that paper is also in the process of hemorrhaging.

After a sad 2023 when the paper saw losses of $30 million for the year, the turbulent news-choked election in 2024 did not bring better fortunes. There has been a massive drop in subscribers, as well as advertisers pulling out from promoting in the paper. Last year, those losses actually grew to a $50 million loss for the year.

Pulitzer Prize Nomination – THE NEW YORK TIMES

  • Those nutty Christians and their centuries-old fashion sense.

Not to suggest the writers at The Times are a cloistered bunch who rarely interact with those outside their chosen bubble, but this report on what Christians are wearing is certainly a sign of not getting out enough.

Their shopping and fashion trend correspondent Misty White Sidell has spotted an emerging hot new trend where culture and faith intersect. Now, before your curiosity spikes to the level of excitement, let me just say this is something you have probably already spotted if you have ventured into a public setting in the last few…always.

Apparently, people of faith are wearing necklaces with a cross hanging on them.

A trend. That is considered a hot new fashion trend.
