Race to the Bottom – ASSOCIATED PRESS

  • So now meeting acceptable quotas is wrong?

While the press complains about Donald Trump attending the Super Bowl and politicizing the game, they also could not help politicizing it. At the Associated Press, Amira Borders needed to carp about the supposed paucity of black head coaches. Only 18% of NFL coaches are black, which is actually in line with the census figures, as blacks are just 15% of the population.

But yes, the argument is that half of the players in the league are black, so the coaches should represent this.

But how is it that the overrepresentation of black players is acceptable, but when it comes to the coaches then that imbalance is racist? And there lies the stark contradiction. Were DEI properly applied in the NFL, possibly half of the black players would be placed out of work.

Prose & Contradiction – CNN

  • Obsessively covering the man you complain about receiving coverage is a grand look.

Brian Stelter went to the Super Bowl and based on his timeline on Sunday, the winner of the day was Donald Trump. Brian noted that the president was in attendance and bemoaned the fact that – unlike the Joe Biden years – not a day can go by without Trump being granted attention and overwhelming the news cycle.

Of course, Brian’s observation was slightly undercut by the fact that he proceeded to detail all of Trump’s activities throughout the game, from his vantage point. We await the Zapruder film analysis of the foodstuffs the president had on his plate while in the skybox during the game.

Pulitzer Prize Nomination – NEWSWEEK

  • When TDS leads a racing journalist to surmise the president will influence car conflicts.

This coming weekend Trump will be revisiting Daytona International Speedway to attend The Great American Race, the kickoff to the NASCAR season. He will reprise his 2020 visit, and may even replicate the moment where the presidential limo came on the track to lead the field of racers.

Newsweek's racing correspondent Lydia Mee sees this as a potential for disaster. See, each time Trump has been to the Daytona 500 there has been a tremendous wreck on the track, and the insinuation is he was somehow responsible. Of course, this has to ignore this is a restrictor plate race, which basically means there is a tremendous wreck promised each and every time.

DNC PR FIRM – FOX NEWS

  • Care to look into this matter, or is the Democrat letter sufficient?

Hey, gang, we have gone nearly a full week without a Pete Hegseth-manufactured controversy, so we need to generate something. So goes the Democrats, and the compliant press. Some of the party members issued a letter to the new Secretary of Defense, demanding he explain the exorbitant costs affiliated with him moving into a government-owned residence, with one cost being close to $50,000 for what was listed as an “emergency” paint job.

Jennifer Griffin reposted the letter and also felt the need to frame this expense against the cost-cutting seen by DOGE. But she just left the story at that stage. Nowhere are we given the quote from Hegseth that he was the one to declare this an emergency job, and also there was no curiosity as to how he came up with this figure.

Hegseth responded to this by noting this work was commissioned by the Department of Defense, as that office owns and oversees upgrades on the dwelling. Griffin seemed content to allow the Democrats’ accusation to stand alone as if that was all that was needed for proof.

Presentation Paradox – CNN

  • More evidence that the journalists at CNN do not listen to their data guru.

Recently we covered Harry Enten, CNN’s polling and statistics expert, and jokingly suggested he may become among the layoffs because he so frequently comes up with data that contradicts the narratives presented on the network. From deportations to January 6 to Trump policies, Enten has shown the American public holds an opinion that deviates from the coverage seen at CNN.

Well, Harry is back, and after weeks of dark coverage from his co-workers about all of the supposedly nefarious things Trump has exacted, he shows that the general public is in favor of his policies. Trump is not only enjoying the highest approval numbers but has amassed more favorability in a matter of weeks than he saw for the entirety of his first term.

Gilded Reframe – VARIOUS OUTLETS

  • So about those fact checks calling this a false story…

Recall in October as North Carolina was reeling from the effects of a rare hurricane arrival, that FEMA was embroiled in a few scandals. One involved former DHS Secretary Mayorkas coming out to announce the agency had run out of money for the balance of the year. Then it was shown that at the same time, FEMA was dropping hundreds of millions of dollars annually to house illegal immigrants. The agency was denying claims of citizens and even refusing to inspect homes with Trump flags outside, but those in this country illegally were being cared for.

A number of members of the press declared this story to be false and a right-wing smear campaign, but now we have a new report from Elon Musk’s DOGE team that FEMA was doling out tens of millions toward this effort – last week.

So even as we could see the documents from the agency last Fall showing these payouts, it was continuing all along, despite the experts asserting this was all a fable.
