A total of 230 messengers from 95 of the convention's 292 churches recognized Collins and his wife Maureen for 16 years of service to the convention. Collins will retire at the end of December.

Michigan Baptists also elected their fourth executive director, Bobby Gilstrap, director of missions for the Huron and Southeastern Baptist Associations in Michigan. (See additional story in today's Baptist Press.)

Messengers approved a 2011 budget of $3,091,308, down 4.65 percent from the current year. Cooperative Program giving was reduced from 30.5 percent to 25 percent of an anticipated $1,498,558 in receipts.

Elected as officers for the coming year during the convention's Oct. 25-26 sessions were: Roscoe Bolton, pastor of Middlebelt Baptist Church in Inkster, president; Sharon Greer, a member of Roscommon Baptist Church in Roscommon, first vice president; Larry Allen, pastor of Warren Woods Baptist Church in Warren, second vice president; James Jones, pastor of First Baptist Church in Trenton, recording secretary.
