Martyr's widow: Be 'the aroma of Christ'

CAPE TOWN, South Africa (BP)—Libby Little's husband Tom was pulled out of a car in Afghanistan and murdered less than three months ago. On Oct. 21, she stood before 4,000 people at Cape Town 2010: The Third Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization and said, "Go spread the aroma of Christ in hard places."

Tom Little, an optometrist, was one of 10 human aid workers killed Aug. 5 in Afghanistan. He was on his fifth trip to the country's Nuristan province, leading a team compelled by Christ's love to serve the Afghan people.

His last message to his wife before crossing into the area was, "We'll call you from the other side. I love you."

A blood-stained notebook recovered from Little's body was presented to his widow. It contained what she believes are notes for a devotional he presented to the team less than a week before his death. The notes spoke about spreading the aroma of Christ, referring to 2 Corinthians 2:15: "For to God we are the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing."

"If Tom were here today," Libbie Little told the gathering, "I think he would say that, in these hard-to-reach places, grace has to be seen, has to be felt."
