Colorado Baptists shared testimonies on the GPS (God's Plan for Sharing) initiative adopted statewide, and the convention celebrated the planting of 17 new churches during the past year.
Jon Randles, an evangelist from Frisco, Texas, was a featured speaker, and the annual sermon was delivered by Korey Buchanek, pastor of Hope Valley Church in Aurora.
Messengers elected Sean Cole, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Sterling, president; Doug Allen, pastor of First Baptist Church in Westcliffe, first vice president; and Rand Clark, pastor of Genesis Church in Castle Rock, second vice president.
The group of 203 registered messengers from 85 churches also approved a 2010 budget of $3,830,642, a 5 percent decrease from the current budget. Of the anticipated $2,018,618 in Cooperative Program giving, Colorado Baptists will continue to forward 29.5 percent to Southern Baptist national and international missions and ministries.
Resolutions included one of appreciation to Estes Park Baptist Church as the host congregation and another expressing gratitude to Bob Bender, pastor of First Baptist Church of Black Forest in Colorado Springs, for two years of service as the convention's president.
A third resolution conveyed condolence and support to local residents after a fire destroyed one building and damaged others in the Estes Park business district Oct. 19.
In other news, five new churches received credentials for the meeting this year: Canyon Ridge Baptist Church in Bellevue; Faith Bridge Baptist Church in Peyton; Hooper Baptist Church in Hooper; Mid Valley Cowboy Worship in Hasty; and New Life Community Church in Greeley.
Gerry Taillon, national ministry leader for the Canadian National Baptist Convention, presented a flag from Alberta, Canada, to Mark Edlund, executive director of the Colorado Baptist General Convention, representing the missions partnership the two conventions share, along with the Wyoming Southern Baptist Convention.
Next year's annual meeting will be Oct. 19-20 in Breckenridge with Agape Outpost Chapel as the host church.
