Joe Biden’s Jim Crow Fantasy

President Biden has built a catalog of racist and offensive statements about black Americans and members of other minority communities throughout his career.  However, Biden’s latest political stunt comparing the resistance to voting for a federalized takeover of our elections, to a sequel of Jim Crow, takes the cake.

In his own words, Biden claimed opposition to the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act was, “Jim Crow 2.0.”  Biden also claimed that this new Jim Crow 2.0, is because of voter suppression and election subversion.

It strikes me as odd that a President who grew up during segregation, would suddenly claim that Jim Crow has made a comeback and federal overhaul of our elections is necessary to save our democracy.

Was it not Joe Biden and the Democrats who proclaimed that the 2020 Presidential Election was the safest and fairest Presidential election ever conducted?  So what changed?  The Democrat Party’s grip on power.

Joe Biden’s poll numbers have fallen into the political basement and the last chance Democrats have to prevent a red wave in November is to rig the game before it is played. That is why in the midst of the midterms, Biden is using the race card to get what he wants.

I cannot imagine that Joe Biden actually believes the United States is once again caught in the grip of Jim Crow, but the mere insinuation of it is not only insulting to black Americans across the country, but also to those who struggled in the segregated south during Jim Crow.

This revisionist take on America’s true struggle for progress is an assault on the legacy of civil rights leaders who marched in the face of fire hoses, dogs, and the threat of death.  It’s an insult to the memory of people like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Emmett Till, and Rosa Parks, just to name a few.

Joe Biden, Chuck Schumer, and Nancy Pelosi should be ashamed of themselves for attempting to make this comparison.  Have the three most prominent Democrats in the country, all of whom were alive during Jim Crow, forgotten the progress we have made in just a half century?

It certainly seems that way after President Biden denigrated MLK’s legacy by suggesting George Floyd had a “greater impact” on civil rights than Dr. King had.  “Jim Crow 2.0,” is another example of Biden playing fast and loose with race for political expediency.

Let me be clear, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act is not intended to help advance civil rights, but instead to help Democrats win future elections and ensure their stronghold over our federal government.  Their argument for shoving this bill through the Senate is that racist Republicans across the country have instituted anti-voting policies, like requiring an I.D. to vote, that disenfranchise black voters.

Does Joe Biden, who championed the 1994 Crime Bill that led to the mass incarceration of black people, think so little of us that he and his Democrat allies really believe we can’t obtain a photo ID to vote?  Apparently, yes.

Here in Houston, Democrats called Republicans racist for canceling Harris County’s 24-hour voting method that was implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic, despite voters having the ability to vote by mail, and having two weeks of early voting. I can assure you that black people can just as easily vote within an allotted time period as any American.

I lost 14 of my West Point classmates during the Global War on Terror. These brave soldiers and thousands of others didn’t die for white people, or black people, or asian people, or Hispanic people. They died for Americans. Their sacrifice didn’t discriminate; it was for all of us.  And as the direct descendant of a slave who grew up on a plantation near Baton Rouge, I am unequivocally proud to say that the United States is the greatest country in the world and, despite what Biden may tell you, we have made historic progress.

As we finish honoring and celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. this week, we must continue to remind ourselves that yes, there will always be room to improve our society, but there is no single better country on earth than America.

Joe Biden’s plan to divide America on racial lines will not work. We are not living in an era of Jim Crow 2.0, precisely the opposite, and the story of my family and my candidacy for United States Congress is evidence of that.
