Running Away from Inflation: The Biden Administration is Destroying Small Businesses

Politicians never fail to run away from the problems they create as a result of failed policies. It's a typical Washington trick: create a problem and then proceed to explain how you will fix the problem you caused in the first place. This time, the Democrats are running away from the crushing inflation numbers that are hurting hard working American families across the country.

How did we get here? The endless pumping of new money has created a historic debt crisis that has forced the federal reserve to purchase more debt. This exceptionally broad approach is hazardous and destructive to our families and communities. The only solution has been for the federal reserve to slow "runaway" inflation by raising borrowing rates which have caused the current recession.

If career politicians in Washington had not created the "runaway" inflation, the Federal government would not have been forced to fix this mess with drastic rate increases that have put us in a recession.

The second issue that politicians are running away from is the self-inflicted increases in energy prices. As a restaurant owner with multiple stores in Arizona, I have first-hand experience with how this type of inflation hurts the average American. Every product made or grown in our economy is touched by energy inflation. A stalk of corn requires fuel to grow, harvest, package, and transport to market. That same bag of corn goes to feed cattle that will pay more for energy to produce and transport to market.

The steak my restaurant buys from our suppliers has seen a dramatic increase in its wholesale price. The rise in energy prices drives up the price at every point in the journey through the supply chain. That steak we serve our guests forces us to decide to either increase our prices to the customer or reduce the profits used to pay employees. In fact, every product that I buy has increased in cost by more than 40% since last year.

On the first day of the Biden Administration, he took away our energy freedom with one stroke of the pen. He and his friends in Washington put gasoline on the fire by spending trillions of new dollars. Hundreds of economists warned this would spike inflation. Now, we must rely on other countries, many of whom do not have the best interest of Americans.

When added to our "runaway" inflation by subsidizing green energy and penalizing traditional energy, we create an environment to discourage conventional energy sources. With the removal of the Keystone XL pipeline and the increasing exploration restrictions, traditional energy companies are no longer investing in developing new technologies and future exploration. As a result, we find our supply diminishing exponentially.

As reported this past week, the Biden Administration approved the lowest number of energy exploration permits since the Truman Administration. The Democrats quietly doubled down on the failed policy of energy manipulation by limiting oil exploration. Ending exploration on federal land is another blow to our economy from another ivory tower politician.

President Biden attempted to increase the oil supply by asking OPEC to produce more. This action is not only contrary to his desired result of reducing the use of oil, but it is also causing our dollars to be sent to another country instead of benefiting our economy that could employ thousands of Americans.

Our President made a politically motivated attempt at short-term relief by releasing a portion of the strategic reserve. We still have record high gas prices with no sign of a decrease back to pre-Biden Administration levels. One would hope that the Democrats would recognize the folly of Biden’s position on energy policy and spending and reverse course. Instead, they have doubled down on additional spending.

The Phoenix metro area tops all major cities in the U.S. for the highest inflation rate of 13%. My opponent, Congressman Greg Stanton, is "running" around town, giving out hard-earned taxpayer dollars while ignoring the struggle those in our community are forced to deal with because of their decisions.

While Stanton and his Democrat colleagues in Congress run the opposite direction from the mess they created, I am committed to serving our constituents by stopping this "runaway" spending and energy inflation. If no changes are made, the results will be a generational struggle similar to some of the worst in history.

It is without question that continuing this path will only lead to further destruction of our economy. I pray for our people and our Country.
