Families Deserve Better: The Inflation Reduction Act Is Hurting Everyday Americans

The Biden administration’s economic “policies” have set this country on a downward spiral into one of the worst recessions we have seen in decades. Those in Washington are determined to destroy the American Dream and deliver results that crush families and small businesses. Americans need economic relief - and they need it now.

This past week, Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg made his way to Arizona and held a press conference with Congressman Greg Stanton. They touted a $25 million pedestrian bridge paid for by their $2.2 billion spending spree that caused the inflation we are now all struggling to dig ourselves out from under. This type of reckless spending during inflationary and recessionary times is harmful to our nation. It has never been more apparent that the Democrat Party is out of touch with the needs of everyday Americans.

The Biden administration loves to talk. Regretfully, that is all we have received this past week. It was clear that the Democrats voted for a bill that will do nothing but continue to push crushing inflation into our households. Has there ever been a time in history when spending more government money lowered inflation? Spending money on the front end is a typical Washington gimmick. The supposed “savings” never materialize on the back end. The Democrats went as far as to name the bill The Inflation Reduction Act so they could trick Americans to believe somehow this would reduce inflation.

The Congressional Budget Office warned a few years ago that additional spending beyond the trillions for COVID relief would lead to what we are witnessing now, a tandem of inflation and an economic slowdown.

With the economy slowing, the same bill provides for more tax hikes and funds the hiring of 87,000 IRS agents to harass small businesses, the lifeblood of our economy. Numerous economists recently wrote in a letter to the administration that you do not raise taxes during a recession. Raising taxes in a recession will only increase the recession's length and slow the recovery.

I have said repeatedly that if the Biden administration does not begin to tackle inflation, it will lead our economy into recession, but hiking taxes during a recession is a dangerous policy for our country. We cannot afford a repeated failure of the liberal economic policies of the 1970s. Yet, Greg Stanton and the Biden administration continue to double down on those failures.

Our children, our families, and our small businesses deserve better. We have added over $7 trillion to our national debt in only two years. We are heading for a financial disaster that this generation has never witnessed nor may not be able to fix in their lifetimes.

I support pro-growth strategies that allow us to pay down the federal debt, meet our obligations to our seniors and help the next generation live the American dream. These are self-inflicted wounds of bad economic and fiscal policy.

When I am elected, I will push for common sense solutions that lower the supply chain's cost and unleash the American economy's power to help all citizens. Families deserve relief today - not tomorrow, and not 10 years from now. It is time we put people over politics and fight for policies that provide immediate economic relief for our families and small businesses.
