"It's fascinating to me that some of the pushback [against Common Core Standards] is coming from, sort of, white suburban moms," Education Secretary Arne Duncan said in Virginia Friday. The comment caused controversy over the weekend and White House spokesman Jay Carney was questioned on the topic Monday. "I can just tell you that the secretary of education and everybody on the president's team dedicated to this effort is focused on making sure that we do everything we can," Carney responded, "to ensure that our kids are getting the education they need for the 21st century."
