Blumenthal: 'I Wore the Uniform in Vietnam'

The latest evidence of Dick Blumenthal's dishonesty over his military record comes from the 2008 Stamford Veterans Day parade in which he said:
I wore the uniform in Vietnam and many came back to all kinds of disrespect.  Whatever we think of war, we owe the men and women of the armed forces unconditional support.

In response, the National Republican Senatorial Committee says, "It's clear that Dick Blumenthal has a real problem with simply telling the truth."
Blumenthal did not wear a uniform in Vietnam, and to assert otherwise is not only disrespectful to his constituents, but insulting to the millions of men and women who have bravely served and given their lives in order to protect our nation over the course of generations. There is no doubt that voters in Connecticut will hold Blumenthal accountable for his shameful lies when they cast their ballots in November.
Amen.  Meanwhile, former presidential candidate Fred Thompson doesn't mince words and rightly calls Blumenthal a "lying weasel."

Update: The Washington Post's Henry Allen has a related editorial out today that asks an especially poignant question: Why would anyone need to lie about having been in Vietnam?
