UPDATE: Defense Fund Established to Defend ACORN Investigators

As we reported, ACORN has announced plans to sue filmaker James O'Keefe, Hannah Giles and conservative newsman Andrew Breitbart over their undercover sting operation in offices across the country.

Facing the $5 million suit, Giles is being defended by the Liberty Legal Institute and a website has been established to accept donations for her defense: DefendHannah.com.

In an interview with Fox News, Giles said she found ACORN's arbitrary $5 million figure "funny," and noted how ironic it is that ACORN plans to use taxpayer dollars to fund a lawsuit against people who went undercover on behalf of America's taxpayers.  No word yet on what O'Keefe's defense strategy will be, and Breitbart chastised ACORN for trying to infringe on free speech.

It's also ironic that ACORN's CEO thanked the filmmakers for exposing bad apples within her own organization, but will now call on the workers she fired to testify in court on what a victim ACORN has been in this whole thing.

Questions are also likely to arise about ACORN's own legitimacy in operating in the state of Maryland after it was revealed the organization's charter had been revoked years long before Giles and O'Keefe's sting investigation.

UPDATE: Word is that O'Keefe is working on getting defense representation and that a defense fund is forthcoming.  Meanwhile, an account has been set up to help support Breitbart's defense and discovery

The Breitbart Defense and Discovery Fund was formed to help defray the legal costs of  Breitbart.com and its affiliates in connection with and/or arising from the ACORN and any related litigation (and, if necessary, to provide security for Andrew Breitbart and his family, as well as for Breitbart.com officers and employees and their families).

Caution: The rest of this blog post may spike blood pressure levels.
The government is withdrawing funds, corporate sponsorships are leaving and mainstream media are finally picking up on the story.  But all this isn't enough for NBC to stop defending the organization.

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow ran a ridiculously outrageous "news" segment on her show last night entitled, "The Truth About the Lies About ACORN," during which she did not once mention the whole prostitution/underage illegal prostitution sex ring/use of prostitution to fund a political campaign/money laundering/tax evasion angle of the ACORN story.  Nice.
