On Tuesday, 29-year-old Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, who came here in 2010 from Uzbekistan, plowed through bystanders and cyclists on a bike path in lower Manhattan in a rented Home Depot pickup truck. Eight people were killed and at least a dozen injured. He had been planning this attack for weeks and left a note saying he was doing this for the Islamic State (via CBS News):
Police and witnesses say a man deliberately drove a rented truck onto a busy bicycle path near the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan, killing eight people and injuring at least 12 others, then emerged from the vehicle screaming and brandishing imitation firearms before being shot by police. The suspect was wounded and taken into custody.

Law enforcement sources identified the suspect to CBS News as Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, a 29-year-old truck driver who has lived in Tampa, Florida, and New Jersey. He came to the U.S. in 2010 from Uzbekistan.
Sources tell CBS News' senior investigative producer Pat Milton the suspect yelled "Allahu Akbar" -- Arabic for "God is great" -- when he exited the truck.
A federal law enforcement source said a note was found in the truck and that it made reference to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
CBS News confirms that Saipov was an Uber driver and has since been banned from the ride-hailing app. He had passed a background check.
Saipov doesn't appear to have an exenstive criminal background, CBS News' Jeff Pegues reports. Both the FBI and the NYPD are "digging" into Saipov's background, Pegues reports.
It’s the deadliest terror attack to hit New York City since September 11. He had fake guns in his possession and it seems he was looking to be martyred. The NYPD only shot and injured him before taking him into custody. This morning, he bragged about his killings.

CNN making sure to point out that “Allahu Akbar” means “God is Great” and is often said on joyous occasions. #ThisIsCNN #ThisIsTrash

As the investigation continues, the media once again showed how they’ve become a clown show. First, a New York Times columnist decided to give a hat tip to New York for having strong gun control laws - totally absurd since Saipov is not a New York resident. Also, he was still able to kill eight people. It was just a dumb remark and politicized the tragedy. This was a terror attack. It’s not the time to peddle gun control talking points.
The NYC terrorist had a pellet gun and a paintball gun. Good thing that in NYC he couldn't buy assault rifles, or the toll would be higher.

Second, there’s still the allergic reaction to call things what they are on the Left. CBS News at least put it in their report, but CNN decided to go the old Associated Press route and say Saipov yelled “God is great” in Arabic. Granted, some reporters at the network said Saipov said “Allahu akbar,” but I guess Wolf Blitzer didn’t get the memo. In April, 39-year-old Kori Ali Muhammad opened fire in Fresno, shouting “allahu akbar,” as he was arrested by law enforcement.

And the hits kept coming. An editor at Think Progress, a liberal news site, criticized President Trump’s remarks today about possibly sending Saipov to Gitmo tweeting why wasn’t he as harsh concerning Stephen Paddock, the Las Vegas shooter. Maybe it’s because…Paddock is dead. Others were equally pathetic in their deflections, saying Saipov was possibly high on drugs, maybe he was fired from his job—or that he was mentally ill. I believe the letter expressing support for ISIS clearly illustrates his motives. The elite media laments how no one trusts them. Well, maybe it’s because they put what actually happens in the news through a politically correct wash that’s just unbelievable to anyone with cognitive function. In an attempt to criticize Trump’s calls for more vetting, some threw out that it wouldn’t work because Uzbekistan is part of Russia. No, that’s wrong too.
The suspect came from Uzbekistan, part of Russia, former Soviet Union. How would extreme vetting work?He arrived in 2010 & violated traffic. https://t.co/CjlUKh9uNU
