Clinton Pal Terry McAuliffe Says Hillary Is Done With Politics. Oh, And He's Looking Forward To Working With Trump

Katie wrote about Hillary Clinton possibly running for a third time, given all of this recount nonsense. Yeah, I’d rather chug bleach too, but Hillary pal Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe said that the former secretary of state is done with politics (to the best of his knowledge)—and that he’s looking forward to working with President-elect Donald J. Trump (via WaPo):

“I have known Donald Trump for 20 years, had dinner with him, golfed with him,” McAuliffe (D) said in an interview on WTOP’s “Ask the Governor” program. “When I ran [for governor] in ’09, he actually wrote me a $25,000 check. So I look forward to a productive relationship.”

[…]

Despite his friendship with the Clintons, McAuliffe said he sent Trump a congratulatory letter the day after the election. He said that he has not spoken with the president-elect, but that he is optimistic that Trump’s promise to boost military and infrastructure spending will benefit Virginia, the nation’s biggest recipient of Defense Department funding.

[…]

Asked if the Clintons are done with politics now, he said: “I think so, sure. I don’t think Hillary has any interest in running again. I’ll let her speak for herself. I haven’t asked her that. I think the president’s probably going to go back, working on all the good deeds he’s done before in helping people around the globe. You know, there are elections. We’ve got to move forward. As governor of Virginia, I’ve got to move forward.”

Okay, let’s rehash what Pavlich said about a third run:

Clinton's biggest problem going into Election Day was a lack of enthusiasm and by the time results started rolling in, it showed. Her so-called "blue-firewall" of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania was bulldozed by Trump, who took all of them in addition to Ohio. The Obama coalition failed to show up to vote for her and if she chooses to run again in 2020, they'll stay home again. Not to mention Clinton barely made it out of the 2016 Democrat primary against Bernie Sanders, whose supporters stayed home or supported third party candidates.

This would be ludicrous. Not to mention that once you lose a general election, you’re pretty much out of the running concerning the presidential race with your respective party. November 8 closed the chapter of the Bill and Hillary era in American politics. It’s over. They’re going to enjoy a nice retirement and the grandkids. They’ll be pushing various humanitarian efforts and engaging in philanthropy, but high executive office is off the table. Now, the Clinton renaissance could come back in the form of Chelsea Clinton, who could follow in her father’s footsteps, gain experience, and mount a presidential run of her own some time in the future. There’s already a rumor that she’s being groomed for a congressional run in New York. We'll deal with that when the times comes if it does at all. Chelsea is a wait and see game, but it’s safe to say that Lady Macbeth is finished.
