FBI Director: There's No Timetable for Investigation of Hillary's Email, Could Go Past DNC

Despite pressure on the FBI to wrap up the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s improper use of a private email server, director James Comey says the agency is not rushing their work simply because of the election.

“There is no timetable on any investigation,” he said in an interview Thursday at the Aspen Security Forum in London.

He also said the Democratic National Convention is not a “key date” for wrapping up the investigation.

“We aspire to do all of our investigations in two ways: well and promptly,” he continued. “I get that people care about this investigation so we’re working very hard to ensure it’s done well and promptly. But as between the two, if we had to choose, we would do it well.”

Last month the FBI was reportedly in the beginning stages of setting up interviews with the former secretary of state and her top aides, meaning the case’s background work was nearing completion.

During Thursday's forum, Comey also reiterated that politics will not play any role in the outcome of the agency’s investigation.

President Obama recently said, however, that he does not believe Clinton put America’s national security at risk. MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough slammed the president for commenting on the investigation, clearly tipping the scales in Clinton’s favor, which, as a result, made a “fool” of Comey, who he said is “killing himself to run a fair investigation.”
