WaPo Columnist: To Make Krauthammer Happy, Obamas May Have to “Just Die”

It’s become commonplace that liberals will scream the GOP is a party full of hateful, divisive people then, in the same breath, proceed to spew hateful, divisive rhetoric. WaPo columnist Colby King provides the latest example of such hypocrisy. The exchange discussing Clinton’s speech on PBS’ Inside Washington between King and fellow panelist Charles Krauthammer went like this:

COLBY KING: I think one of (Bill) Clinton's lines really hit home. The amount of hate that the Republicans have for Barack Obama is just astounding. It's not just political differences, it's really raw, visceral hate. And you hear week after week, day after day, moment after moment, to the Fox crowd.

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: That is complete rubbish. I haven't heard one Republican use the language that the leader of the California delegation used in describing Paul Ryan as the Goebbels of our time, as a Nazi. He actually had to excuse himself and return home after that because of a previously scheduled root canal.

KING: If you are attempting to say that you have not heard visceral hatred expressed toward Barack Obama, then we may as well stop the show, may as well take off the mikes and go away.

Then, when Krauthammer criticized Michelle Obama’s speech (which he has said he “didn’t buy a line of it”) later on, King couldn’t seem to believe Krauthammer had the audacity to offer an analysis that was critical of the first lady.

KING: I just can't believe he's going after the man's wife. I can't believe he did that, but he did, but he did. Now, did you offer similar comments about Ann Romney's speech as well?

KRAUTHAMMER: It was a different speech by a different woman.

KING: But did she not also talk about her husband, his feelings, empathy? But no, let's not do that because we're talking about the Obamas, and this, when it comes to the Obamas, for goodness sakes, they do nothing right. I'm prepared to just go ahead and accept that from you, Charles. They do nothing right. Maybe the thing that they could do that would make you happy, maybe they should just die.

Hmm. Charles Krauthammer happens to be an extremely intelligent man whose analysis – critical or not – isn’t dictated by party lines (gasp!). Though he leans right, Krauthammer tells it like it is and never fails to objectively direct his analysis at the substance of the matter at hand. See here, here and here for examples.

In addition to what Krauthammer referenced above, two other figures at the DNC made Nazi references that were directed toward Republicans. The chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party compared Gov. Nikki Haley to Eva Braun, Hitler’s mistress. In addition, the dean of the Kansas Democratic delegation Pat Lehman referenced Hitler’s ‘big lie’ when talking about Republicans and voter ID laws. Clearly, it's the GOP that's totally the party of “raw, visceral hate.”
