Rep. Allen West has been one of President Obama's most persistent critics throughout America's sluggish economic recovery. Yesterday, the Florida congressman highlighted ongoing minority unemployment.

As a Member of the Congressional Black Caucus and the House Small Business Committee, I am seriously concerned with the 13 percent unemployment number for Black Americans. The failed economic policies of President Obama are destroying the black community and lessening the chances for economic freedom while promoting economic dependence. Perhaps this is what the NAACP was afraid to hear me address.

Congressman West might have been spurred by polls suggesting that President Obama leads rival Mitt Romney by an enormous 94%-3% margin among black voters. The sluggish economy has disproportionately affected black workers, and the most recent economic numbers only serve to highlight that fact.
