As of early May 2016, Texas has reached more than one million citizens licensed to carry a gun – or 1,017,618 to be exact.

Not surprisingly, the number one reason people in the Lone Star State and across the country are pursuing concealed carry permits is for self-defense purposes.
Florida is still the reigning champion for the most concealed carry holders in any state with over 1.3 million.
Texas has been a concealed carry state since the 1990s. It wasn't until 2015 open carry of handguns became legal.
