Earlier this week, GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump was asked about his potential picks for vice president should he become the Republican nominee. His answer was surprising not just to voters, but to the people he named.
In an interview published Monday, USA Today asked Trump about possible vice presidential running mates, including Walker, whom the real estate mogul criticized two weeks ago at a Janesville campaign rally after the governor endorsed his rival Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.
“I like Walker actually in a lot of ways,” Trump told the newspaper. “I hit him very hard. … But I’ve always liked him. There are people I like, but I don’t think they like me because I have hit them hard.”
The bad blood between Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker prompted a laugh out loud and baffled response. Not only did Trump openly trash Walker on the campaign trail as recently as last week, much of Walker's exit speech from the GOP race last year centered around defeating Trump. Walker has also endorsed Texas Senator Ted Cruz and helped lead him to victory in the Badger State.
He [Walker] said he laughed when he read Trump’s comments.
"It’s kind of interesting to hear that after the things that were said about me a couple weeks ago,” Walker said. “It’s almost breathtaking that I was listed in the first place.”
During a town hall style form Tuesday night on CNN, Trump denied ever considering Walker for a VP position and repeated his statement about simply "liking" the Governor and other former GOP candidates like Marco Rubio.
